Mums Day Out Event

Mums’ Day Out was developed with the aim of enhancing mother’s awareness of self-care and offers information as to how this might be achieved. Mums’ Day Out also provides an opportunity for Mothers to make social connections thereby helping to alleviate social isolation for these women. This day is held once every two months for all new mums in the area.

Mums’ Day Out also gives women the opportunity to speak with a:

  • Midwife
  • Speech therapist - discussing the importance of reading early to your child
  • Dietitian
  • Physiotherapist
  • Social worker
  • Local Library worker

Let’s Read show bags are handed out at the end of the day containing a book/resource information for children up to 4 months old.

We discuss baby and parents together

Modelling – demonstrating to parents how to “play” & "read" with children, how to tune in to their needs.

Making a point of acknowledging parents positive approach to parenting.

Discussing the importance of quality time with children and it is never too early to read to your baby.

Mums' Day Out

Every second month, Yarra Valley Community Health invites new mums in the Yarra Junction area to attend a ‘Mums' Day Out'.

Mums with babies aged from 6 weeks to 6 months are treated to a day out, with morning tea and lunch provided, a complimentary massage and the opportunity to speak with a Midwife, Dietician, Social Worker, Physiotherapist and Speech Pathologist. Our Speech Pathologist talks about early language and the benefits of reading to your baby. Our other clinicians provide information about diet and exercise and time to talk about life with a new baby.

This is a relaxing day out and a chance to meet other new mums in the local area. Mums are given the opportunity to ask questions, to talk about their birth experience and life with their baby and to seek advice from the appropriate professionals, if needed, all in a friendly, supportive environment. For mums who haven’t yet read with their baby, it provides valuable insight into the benefits of reading and tips to incorporate reading into their daily routine.

The Let’s Read program is sponsored by Yarra Valley Community Health and The Shire of Yarra Ranges.
