15Th November 2012

This morning the Hon Peter Garrett MP, Minister for School Education, Early Childhood and Youth officially launched the Let's Read campaign at the International QEC Conference in Albert Park, Melbourne.

The Murdoch Childrens Research Institute together with the Royal Children’s Hospital Centre for Community Child Health and The Smith Family are working in partnership to deliver Let’s Read an established emergent literacy program. The Let’s Read program has been delivered to over 120,000 families in more than 100 Australian communities. Let’s Read provides assistance for families to understand language and emergent literacy development and provide resources to help them stimulate their child’s learning.

In July 2012 the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) funded the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute to implement a 12 month Let’s Read National Early Years Literacy Campaign. Building on existing evidence-based programs, the Let’s Read campaign engages families, professionals and communities to promote high quality early literacy environments for children aged 0-5 years.
