Library links
When was the last time you went to the library? You may be surprised to find out what the library has to offer to you and your child. Helping your child develop a familiarity with the library is an important part of their learning about, and loving books. The library is a fantastic resource.
There is the opportunity to borrow great children’s books free from your local library. This means that you can have lots of books in your home for your child to explore and it is not going to cost you a cent.
Taking your child to the library, and letting them choose their own books, can be a fun adventure. You can talk about and plan this trip to the library with your child, building a sense of anticipation and enjoyment. For example you may talk about and plan:
- How many books your child will select?
- Will you borrow any books that have animals in the story?
- Do you have a favourite book that you would like to borrow again?
- How many days before you are going to visit the library again?
Libraries also now offer story times and activities for young children. Attending these sessions is another way to support your child to become familiar with the library, have fun and develop a love of books.
