Book title: Cornelius P. Mud. Are you ready for bed?
Review written by: Helen (mum) and Eloise (2 year 4 month old daughter)
Our thoughts about this book:
We thoroughly enjoyed this book which tells the story of a mischievous little pig called Cornelius, or Neil-e-us as Eloise likes to call him, who does lots of silly things to avoid going to bed. The story gives children an opportunity to decide whether Cornelius is really getting ready for bed or avoiding it completely. Depending on her mood, Eloise often thinks that putting toys in the fridge, not the toy box, is the best place to put them then cheekily watches for my reaction.
The story is charmingly illustrated with simple colourful graphics. The illustrations help provide cues for littlies to decide whether Cornelius has really completed the tasks his mum has set him before going to bed. As the leading character, Cornelius is a stand out performer stealing every page he appears in. His ability to turn cleaning his teeth into a foaming at the mouth performance is especially one to see. His Mum is a strong supporting cast member while three bemused fish deserve Oscars for their eye-boggling cookie-eating performances.
Our favourite page is where Cornelius and his mum share a hug as part of his bed-time routine as we get to cuddle too. The giggles continue right to the end of the book so keep turning those pages to find out how, even when Mum has turned out the lights, Cornelius has one more trick up his sleeve to help him not to go to bed!
We think 2 to 4 year olds, and their reading partners, will find this sharing this book a very pleasurable experience.

Book title: Cuddle Time
Review written by: Debbie (mum) and
Riannah, otherwise known as Miss R (11 month old daughter)
Our thoughts about this book:
I am finding this book review difficult to write, as I was focussed on the story and reading this book to Miss R cover to cover. That was the task! Miss R thought otherwise. To her, this new object was something to feel, taste, smell and smack on the table. I stuck to the objective of the task, to read the story. Miss R had other ideas, turning the pages was fun! After a lengthy negotiation we settled on playing with the book and broadly following the story line.
As far as the book goes, the story was pretty simple; about two children who venture into their parent’s “cave”! – which is under their parent’s bed covers in the morning.
The book was quite robust and suitable for Miss R’s inquisitiveness. I found the illustrations within the book to be good, although lacking bright colours to attract her attention.

Book title: Grandad Pot
Review written by: Trevor (grandad) and
Emily (3 year old grand daughter)
Our thoughts about this book:
A great story similar but better than Goldilocks and the three bears.
Emily was very involved and questioning as well and correcting me, the reader (Trevor), when I made a mistake of identifying characters (Polly = Emily, Grandpa = Trevor). We recommend reading this book because of its interesting play on differing expectations of Polly and Grandpa.

Book title: Whose Belly?
Review written by: Catherine (mum) and Josie (13 month old daughter)
Our thoughts about this book:
This is a lovely book, with lovely clear colours and only a few words on each page. The book asks the question “whose belly?” on each page, and you lift the flap to discover with animal’s belly can be seen peeking out.
My child loves turning pages and lifting flaps, so this was perfect. Her favourite character seems to be the penguin, although the last page is the best because we always end up with a big tickle on my daughter’s belly.
I would recommend this book to all parents of children with tickly bellies!

Book title: Does a cow say boo?
Review written by: Brian (grandad) and Blake (14 month old grandson)
Our thoughts about this book:
The book identifies the correct noises that the animals in the book make – not the sound boo. Blake was interested in the book but could not wait for me to turn pages. He has other books of his own that have less words per page, so perhaps the impatience comes from knowing his own books.
There was no special characters that attracted attention more than others, but at 14 months this is ok.
I would recommend this book to others of a slightly older age.

Book title: Silly Suzy Goose
Review written by: Karin (mum) and Taran (4½ year old son)
Our thoughts about this book:
This is a nicely illustrated book about Suzy who wants to be different. She goes on a search to find what she would like to be only to find that it's good being like others, but nice to be different sometimes.
The illustrations are simple and the story easy to follow. Taran enjoyed looking at all the colourful pictures and was able to remember the actions in the story. He laughed at the funny pictures and we both loved the Toucan.
I would recommend this book to others. It's a fun story and easy to understand for children of approximately 4 years of age. They may not necessarily understand the deeper meaning of the story - one of self esteem - but they understand that it's fine to be a bit different; there is a reason why you are who you are.
