Let's Read

Let's Read is an exciting initiative to promote reading with young children from birth to 5 years.

There are a range of components to Let's Read. These work together to support and empower parents/carers to read with their young children.

Let's Read aims to give children the skills they will need to learn to read when they start school.

Let's Read is designed to be owned by and delivered in the community.

What's New

We are continuing to develop the material on the Let’s Read website. The following information has been added:

• Parent Information - Book reviews - We asked parents and grandparents to share their experiences of reading select book titles with their children and grandchildren.
• Parent Information – Going to the Library - This provides some simple advice about the importance of the library and links for locating your local library and the activities they are offering.
• Parent Information – Links to other parent information - This provides two other websites that parents may wish to access for more information.
• Research – Introduction - A new resource on “literacy promotion” has been linked. This resource provides an introduction to the topic, a summary of the latest research and practical strategies to give to parents.
• Research – Links - Included is a range of links to other relevant research papers.
• About Let’s Read – Underpinning Philosophy - A simplified version has replaced the previous, more jargonistic outline. Worth a quick read.

 

Let’s Read was developed by the Centre for Community Child Health at the Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne. The Murdoch Childrens Research Institute and The Smith Family have partnered
to implement Let's Read with communities across Australia
