Mirrabooka, Western Australia

About the community

The Mirrabooka community is located within the City of Stirling in Western Australia.  The Mirrabooka region has seen an increase in the services provided for young children and their families such as support services for families from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse backgrounds.  This has occurred due to the changing need of the community including the increased numbers of new migrant families settling in the area and the overall population growth.

Mirrabooka and the Let's Read program

Let’s Read is scheduled to be delivered to community representatives who are in direct contact with the families of Mirrabooka. In July 2016, a range of services will be receiving Let’s Read training with resources to deliver to families in the region.

Community stories

November 2012

Seventeen community members attended Let’s Read training in early 2012 as part of the Mirrabooka Communities for Children project - Literacy Links - facilitated by Ngala. Most of those who received training were born outside Australia.

The community members who attended the formal training were provided with subsequent opportunities to practice reading in English and in their own language. As a result, more than 50 books have been distributed to community members who may otherwise not have access to early literacy information and support.
