National Simultaneous Stroytime

22Nd May 2013

Today is National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS). NSS is an important annual campaign that aims to encourage more young Australians to read and enjoy books. Now in its 13th successful year it is a colourful, vibrant and fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy using an Australian children's book that explores age appropriate themes and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Grades 1 to 6. This year’s book is ‘The Wrong Book’ by Nick Bland which will be narrated by special guest, actress Laura Burzacott.

The Education Institute at The Royal Children's Hospital (RCH) participated in NSS today at the hospital. Around 80-100 children attended the storytime session on RCH Main Street, including students from North Melbourne PS, the RCH Early Learning Centre and hospital patients and families. This year’s book ‘The Wrong Book’ by Nick Bland was narrated by special guest, actress Laura Burzacott.

Scholastic generously donated copies of The Wrong Book by Nick Bland for every inpatient in the hospital so these children could participate from their rooms if they are unable to join us on Main Street.
