Get into your library!

When was the last time you went to the library? You might be surprised to learn about all the things that the library has to offer.

Helping your child become familiar with the library is part of learning about and loving books. The library is a fantastic resource.

It's free to borrow great children’s books from your local library. Soit won’t cost you a cent to have lots of great books in your home to share with your child.

It can be a really fun adventure to go to the library together and for your child to choose books. You can talk about and plan this trip to the library with your child. For example:

  • How many books will your child select?
  • Will you borrow any books that have animals in the story?
  • Do you have a favourite book that you would like to borrow again?
  • How many days before you are going to visit the library again?

Libraries also now offer story times and activities for young children. These sessions are free and are another way to support your child to have fun and develop a love of books.

My Neighbourbood on the Raising Children Network can help you find a library in your area.
